Genie+ Gets a Controversial Update

This week’s #MagicMonday has us talking about Disney’s new update to their Genie+ system and what that means for your next Disney trip.

For those that don’t know, Genie+ is the replacement system for Disney’s FastPass, where you can pay a set price per day to try to reserve your favorite rides at different times in your MyDisneyExperience app. Thus far, the daily price has changed based on demand, surging during more popular times of the year like spring break or the holidays.

Disney’s new update will also vary the price based on your ticket. There will be a different price for single park Genie+, versus park hopping Genie+. Undoutably it will be more for the park hopping version, which may seem like a cash grab on an already pricey parkhopper ticket, but here are a few reasons it might not be so bad.

For starters, it is a win for the single park folks. Park hoppers with Genie+ were previously able to lock down popular rides at ALL of the parks, based off their potential plans. With the likely drop in park hopping Genie+ users, this will mean more availibility for the single park people to get in on those reservations. Secondly, Disney has been making big efforts lately to cut down on the extra costs by doing things like removing parking fees for resort guests, and trading a mantadory charge like that, for an optional charge like this, is a much more guest-friendly option.
