Your Guide to Mickey’s Not-so-Scary 2023
This week’s #MagicMonday, we are breaking down everything you need to know about the return of Mickey’s Not-so-Scary Halloween Party in 2023 running from August 11 to November 1. Find out some of the exclusive perks of this after-hours party, how to book your Not-so-Scary adventure, and more!
Last week Disney officially announced the return of the Not-so-Scary Halloween Party to Magic Kingdom this fall. This is a transformative event in the park that comes with a plethora of unique perks and experiences that you can only find in the spooky season.
One of the must-do activities during NSS is the Boo To You parade that features characters from fan favorites like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus. The parade even opens with a headless horseman riding through the parade route and right down Main Street USA! You are doing to want to find a spot at least 20 minutes in advance for this one as the parade route with the packed with costumed enthusiasts.
Now let’s talk rides. One of the biggest perks of any after-hours event at Disney World is the reduced and limited capacity of the park, and NSS is no different. Rides that hold long queue times during the day will fall too much shorter waits during events, and have the added bonus at NSS of having a few exclusive re-skins.
This means beloved rides like Space Mountain will have new twists, like all of the lights being off inside the mountain (seriously, completely pitch black in there!), and Pirates of the Caribbean hosts live actors in the queue and in the ride. Last year, even Teacups had special lighting for the event and I’m betting we will see TRON: Lightcycle Run hosting some new and exciting lighting to match the spooky theme this year.
Not-So-Scary is also home to some unique stage shows and firework shows that you won’t want to miss. Last year’s event had the Hocus Pocus sisters front and center in front of the castle, brewing up some entertainment for all of us. As well as a beautiful firework show with matching castle projections of Mickey and friends chasing down Zero in a mansion. Another event that you are going to want to find your spot for plenty early.
Any longtime Magic Monday reader knows that we love Photopass and NSS offers plenty of amazing and unique photo opportunities for your family to take full advantage of around the park, and it’s not every day that you get to snag all those ride photos dressed up in costume!
Lastly lets talk about the main attraction here for the kiddos, trick-or-treating! Upon entry into Magic Kingdom for the event, you will be given a special NSS candy bag for each person to go around to all of the various storefronts and streets around Magic Kingdom and have Cast Member’s gleefully shovel candy into those bags. There is no limit to the amount of candy you or your young ones can receive at NSS so load up! I think we had NSS candy laying around our house for months after the event!
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary tickets can be reserved as early as April 27th with a valid hotel reservation through your favorite Travel Advisors. We really can’t emphasize enough what a unique and fun experience this is for everyone in the family. Last year our party consisted of ages 10-70+ and everywhere in between and everyone was blown away by the decorations, shows, and re-skins in the park.
