Should you wake up to a park view?

This week’s #MagicMonday we are dreaming of waking up with that coveted view of the Magic Kingdom from the Contemporary Resort. What are some of the perks of staying in a Deluxe Resort, and is this the right place to splurge for your family’s trip? Read on to find out more!

There is no denying that the Magic Kingdom is the flagship park at Walt Disney World, and with that premier-destination draw, comes the luxury of the Monorail Resorts.

Magic Kingdom View from Contemporary Resort

We recently had the amazing opportunity to visit Disney’s Contemporary Resort and score one of its theme park view rooms. The proximity to MK is the obvious draw here: waking up to a theme park view, interior monorail access with private security, and walking distance to MK. But even with all of this, these rooms come with a lofty price-tag. This week we will break down if this opulent experience is worth it for your family’s Disney World trip.

Contempo - Resort View Room

A room like this can add the brightest cherry on top of your Disney vacation. The Contemporary Resort already adds A LOT to your trip with its aforementioned proximity to Magic Kingdom, and the added deluxe resort after-hours, early theme park entry, and access to fan favorite dining with California Grill, Steakhouse 71, and Chef Mickey’s. However you only have so much time on your Disney trip, and the more you plan on spending dining, or in the parks for that matter, the less time you will have to take in your balcony room.

Our arrival lined up with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and made for a magnificent backdrop as we first walked out onto our balcony that night and kicked off our short stay. Special events like this can add big value to a resort view room since they are accompanied by unique firework shows.

View of Grand Floridian Resort from Contemporary

These amazing views come with a catch though. If you want to watch them in the parks, you won’t be watching them in your swanky balcony room! This was apparent right away on our check in, because even though we could see the beautiful fireworks, we were not able to enjoy the animations on the castle or the accompanying audio nearly as much as we did when we were physically in the park. On the flip side, for the more senior members of our party, this view gave them the perfect chance to enjoy a scaled-back version of the firework shows, without having to battle the crowds for a good spot on Main Street, or deal with the mass exodus after the shows end.

In the end it comes down to matching the room to your activity level. If you family is going to be rope-dropping every morning, and staying in the parks as much as possible, they may not have time to fully enjoy the coveted views you are paying so much for, and that money might be better spent elsewhere like Genie+ or even a VIP Tour! But if you are slowing it down and just looking to take it all in, it is hard to deny the magic of waking up to the view of Cinderella’s Castle, Space Mountain, and the rest of Magic Kingdom.
